Autism Assessment
Autism assessments are comprehensive evaluations that focus on social communication, restricted or repetitive patterns of behaviour, sensory processing, and overall functioning across settings. These assessments can help determine whether Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is present, clarify support needs, and guide practical recommendations for home, school, work, and mental health treatment planning.
We provide autism assessments for children, adolescents, and adults in Ottawa, with virtual options available Ontario-wide.
Our Process
The autism assessment process is a collaborative process between you and the clinician, and in children, with a parent as well. The goal is to provide diagnostic clarity and a practical plan for support.
During autism assessments, you will be guided through structured questions and standardized measures that help assess relevant areas of functioning in an evidence-based manner. Collateral information is often important, particularly for child and adolescent assessments.
Adult Autism Assessment
Many adults pursue autism assessment to better understand long-standing patterns related to social communication, sensory sensitivities, routines, masking, burnout, and mental health concerns. Adult autism assessments typically focus on current functioning, developmental history, and careful consideration of other factors that can overlap with autistic traits (e.g., ADHD, anxiety, trauma, OCD, mood concerns).
Child & Adolescent Autism Assessment
For teens and children, autism can affect learning, social development, emotional regulation, sensory processing, and daily functioning. The assessment process often includes parent input and, when available, school input to understand how strengths and challenges present across home and school.
Following the completion of the assessment, a report will be written based on the information gathered throughout the process (and, when applicable, from collateral sources such as parent/teacher input). Once the report is complete, you will be invited to a feedback session, where you will have an opportunity to ask any questions and share any additional information you feel may be relevant.
In order to complete an autism assessment, you may be self-referred or referred by a physician or other healthcare professional.
